Property Tax

What are Property Taxes?

Property taxes are assessed and collected to fund essential public services and infrastructure improvements within the community. Property tax revenues received by Greenwood Village support a variety of municipal operations and services that benefit residents and businesses.

In Colorado, county assessors are responsible for establishing the value of real property. Properties are revalued on a regular cycle using market conditions, comparable sales, and property characteristics, including any improvements. The assessed value is calculated by applying the assessment rate established by state law and multiplying it by the total mill levy for all applicable taxing authorities to determine the property tax owed.

Greenwood Village’s mill levy is among the lowest in the Denver metropolitan area. The City’s portion of a property owner’s total tax bill represents only a small share of the overall amount, with the majority supporting schools, counties, and special districts.

Assessment rates, valuation cycles, and calculation methods are set at the state level and may change over time. For the most current and detailed explanation of Colorado’s property tax system, visit the Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) website.

Property taxes for Greenwood Village addresses are administered by Arapahoe County. The Arapahoe County Treasurer issues annual property tax bills, collects payments, and then distributes the tax revenue to the various taxing authorities listed on each property tax statement.
