Business Tax Licensing
Through the business taxes they pay, members of the business community play a major role in the City's ability to provide high-quality services to the community. These services include police protection, street maintenance, snow removal, parks and trails, and community aesthetics. Creating a safe, attractive, clean, and easily traveled village is crucial in retaining businesses and attracting new businesses to the village community. Businesses operating in Greenwood Village must comply with the city's tax licensing requirements.
Occupational Privilege Tax License
All businesses with a physical City of Greenwood Village address, as well as those with employees that have significant physical presence working in the City (the employee is earning $250.00 or more in a calendar month in the City) must obtain an Occupational Privilege Tax (OPT) License.
The tax consists of two portions: the employee portion and employer portion. Both portions are $2.00 per month ($4.00 per month combined) and both apply when an employee earns $250.00 or more in a calendar month. The employer is responsible for reporting and remitting both portions of the tax.
Sales and Use Tax License
If your business conducts sales of tangible personal property at retail, a Sales and Use Tax License is required. The 3.0 percent municipal tax must be charged, collected and remitted directly to the City of Greenwood Village for sales that take place in our city.
Virtually every business located in the City will have a Use Tax liability. Use tax eliminates any sales tax advantage that outside retailers may have. If a retail vendor fails to collect and remit the correct sales tax, the purchaser may owe Use Tax to the City.
Lodging Tax License
A 3.0 percent Greenwood Village Lodging Tax applies to all lodging services furnished within the City of Greenwood Village. This is in addition to the 3.0 percent Greenwood Village Sales Tax. Every furnisher of lodging services is required to collect and remit Lodging Tax to the City of a Monthly Basis.
