Citizens Academy

Applications Now Open for Greenwood Village Citizens Police Academy

The Greenwood Village Police Department is excited to announce the start of its Citizens Police Academy on Thursday, February 19, 2026. This informative and engaging program will run every Thursday evening from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Greenwood Village City Hall.

The Citizens Police Academy aims to educate community members about the vital role of law enforcement and its impact on the community. Each three-hour session will cover a wide range of topics, featuring presentations and demonstrations from specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team (ERT), K-9 Unit, Crisis Intervention Team, Traffic Safety Unit, Investigations, and School Resource Officers.

Participants can expect an interactive experience that includes hands-on activities such as high-risk traffic stop scenarios and the use of less-than-lethal training tools. This setting provides an excellent opportunity for participants to ask questions and engage directly with the police officers and academy instructors.

The curriculum also includes a tour of the Arapahoe County Jail and a full day at the firearms training facility, providing a comprehensive overview of law enforcement operations.

Best of all, the Citizens Academy is free and open to anyone 18 and older. Upon successful completion of the program, participants and their families will be invited to a graduation ceremony and celebratory dinner.

Classes will run from February 19, 2026, until May 7, 2026. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to enhance your understanding of law enforcement in our community!
