Police Chief Dustin Varney's objective for Greenwood Village Police Department is to be the best police department in the nation. To pursue this goal, we hire outstanding candidates and provide them with excellent equipment and ongoing professional training.

Police Department Organization
The City of Greenwood Village employs 68 sworn officers. The Police Department is led by Chief Dustin Varney, who began his career as a police officer in 1994 and became Greenwood Village's Chief of Police in 2017. The Command Team consists of a Deputy Chief, four sworn Police Commanders, and the Communications/Records Manager.
Patrol
Patrol Officers work four 10-hour shifts per week (Days, Swings, or Graveyards). There are 6 teams, each team with a Sergeant, a Corporal, and a team of officers.

Benefits
This full-time position carries an excellent benefits package that includes full coverage for medical, dental, and vision. These benefits are active on the first day of employment with the City. Our benefits package also includes excellent retirement, longevity pay, tuition reimbursement, and a $1,000 annual uniform allowance.
Police officers work four 10-hour shifts per week on a set schedule. This position requires employees to work nights, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. To compensate officers for working shifts that include holidays, the City provides 11 annual floating holidays, paid vacation, and sick leave as part of a comprehensive benefits package.

The Greenwood Village Police Department sponsors police recruits through the Highlands Ranch Law Enforcement Training Facility. The academy is full-time and runs January through June, and July through December each year.

Training
The field training program consists of three phases, each with a different field training officer, to build the new officer's skills in a hands-on, real-world environment. The length of the phases is determined by the trainee's performance and ability to meet specific metrics and goals.
Ongoing training is provided monthly and includes firearms, driving, de-escalation, basic life-saving skills (CPR), and more. Virtual web-based training is also offered to ensure officers are current with case law, policy, and procedure.
Additional training is available, and officers are encouraged to attend training from other agencies and private providers.
