Ceramics Relief Tiles for Kids2022-05-03T16:30:00Stop by the Curtis Center for the Arts after school to have fun designing and constructing your very own ceramic tile. Students will learn the basics of clay construction which will include coiling, pinching and slab work to create a ceramic relief (image will look like it is coming off the surface!).
Class will begin with students drawing a scene/object of their choice onto a wet ceramic. Then students will build it up and carve sections of it away to create a relief. Finished pieces will be glazed and fired.

11 Drawing and Sketching
Drawing and Sketching2022-05-11T13:00:00Continue to develop and challenge your drawing skills and expand your understanding of how to apply the fundamentals of drawing to your own works of art. In these 6-week sessions master artist, Rick Brogan will guide and mentor you in the foundations of creating our own work of art through drawing. Your drawings can be their own works of art, or you can apply them to your own paintings or other art forms at home.
Through demonstrations, one-on-one instruction and hands-on exercises, students will gain confidence in their drawing skills by drawing and sketching still life set ups, figures/portraits from a live model (one class each session), nature, interiors, and cityscapes using graphite.

Doodling Workshop2022-05-14T10:00:00When doodling, the repetitive strokes, lines and shapes allow you to concentrate on rhythmic and repeating patterns, helping you to let go of thoughts and concerns and alleviate stress. The meditative scribbling and drawing process calms your mind helping you to become centered.
In this workshop students will make mindless scribble, nonobjective drawings and discover new shapes and patterns. Throughout the class students will make their own cut outs to create their own abstract collage doodle art to take home.

Batik Prayer Flags2022-05-21T09:00:00Traditionally, prayer flags are used to promote peace, compassion, strength and wisdom. In this one-day workshop create your own set of colorful prayer flags using the batik method.
Each student will receive their own set of hemmed flags that will be ready to hang! Students will draw and paint a resist with wax and dye on the flags.
These beautiful flags will be colorfast and sturdy enough to flay outside! Come and add some art to your garden!
