Time is Running Out: Protect Home Rule in Greenwood Village
When Senate Bill 23-213 was introduced, it was met with opposition from city leaders across Colorado. Sen. Jeff Bridges, who represents Greenwood Village, listened to resident concerns about the preemption of local land use and zoning decisions and helped amend the version of the bill that passed the Senate to remove many of these overreaching measures. However, significant preemptions were re-inserted into the bill as it passed through the House of Representatives with only days remaining in the legislative session.
On Friday, May 5, SB 23-213 passed the House and will head back to the Senate. The House version of the bill does NOT recognize that local governments are best suited to address the needs of their communities.
What Can You Do?
The legislative session is set to adjourn Monday. Let Sen. Jeff Bridges know you appreciate his efforts to remove the preemptions and you want him to vote NO on legislation that disregards our City’s home rule charter and eliminates residents’ ability to influence future developments in their neighborhoods.
