With just days left in the legislative session, significant amendments have been made to Senate Bill 23-213 that re-insert the state into local land use and zoning decisions. The City of Greenwood Village remains opposed to this bill as it will preempt local control over all our residential communities. As of Tuesday, May 2, amendments were re-added to the bill that require the allowance of dense housing near transit corridors and allow accessory dwelling units (ADUs) on any residential lot within cities like Greenwood Village. This overreach of the state continues to disregard our City’s home rule charter and residents' ability to influence future developments in their neighborhoods.
On April 4, Greenwood Village City Council unanimously passed Resolution No. 17-23 opposing preemption of local land use authority in SB23-213. Additional information about SB 23-213 is available on the Colorado Municipal League’s website.
