Legislative Update: SB 213

Legislative Update Square

Senate Bill 213 is scheduled for a committee hearing tomorrow (Tuesday, May 2) upon adjournment. While the versions of the bill that passed in the Senate removed most local preemptions—thanks to the efforts of several state senators, including our local Sen. Jeff Bridges—our partners at Colorado Municipal League (CML) have not received guarantees from members of the House that measures that would override local control will not be added back in. In fact, CML has noted evidence that there are key proponents still seeking to usurp home rule with amendments to this bill that would mandate dense growth in cities like Greenwood Village.

With days left in the session, there is no way of knowing when the House will adjourn for committee work or if the bills will be heard in the order they are in the calendar. However, the powerful testimonies in the Senate Local Government & Housing Committee made a difference in getting significant changes made to this bill. To ensure your voice is heard on this important legislation, please sign up to testify either remotely or in person. Please note that you must sign up to testify in committee ahead of when the committee meeting starts. If you choose to testify remotely, you will receive a link via email which you will follow to access the meeting.

Additionally, you can also still contact Representative Ruby Dickson today and tell her SB 213 is still wrong for her constituents and you expect a NO vote from her.
