Greenwood Village Partners with Ting for City-wide Fiber Internet Network

Ting Announcement

At the August 7, 2023, Greenwood Village City Council Meeting, Council unanimously approved a motion to authorize Mayor George Lantz to execute a Broadband Fiber to the Premise (FTTP) Service Provider Agreement with Ting Internet, LLC to bring City-wide fiber internet network accessibility to all City of Greenwood Village residents.

The City has been working to improve access to high-speed internet services for residents over the past several years with the Council Infrastructure Committee completing a feasibility study to understand how best to bring fiber internet service to the community. The City released a request for proposal in March 2023 to solicit responses from fiber internet providers. Ting, the sole respondent to the proposal, was selected and will now move forward with construction to make fiber internet service available to all households and businesses in Greenwood Village over the next four years.

The technology utilized by Ting delivers up to 1 gigabit per second download and upload speeds simultaneously. Ting will build the network in three phases beginning in early 2024 with construction finalized in 2027. To ensure service availability to all residents, the City will provide a maximum financial contribution of $5 million to Ting based on meeting identified construction milestones.

In addition to its commitment to build a citywide network and making fiber internet service available to all residents, Ting will offer Greenwood Village residents a service price of $89 per month for five years following the completion of each phase of construction and indefinitely waive connection fees for all residents.

Finally, Ting will provide fiber strands for the City to use to further extend and enhance City services throughout the community. The City previously budgeted $2 million to construct its own fiber backbone but will now dedicate those funds towards the completion of this project and utilize Ting’s network infrastructure as the City’s backbone.

Ting will begin pre-construction communications with residents three to four months prior to the beginning of each construction phase where residents can learn more about Ting, construction progress, and how to sign up for Ting’s service.

“I am excited to announce our partnership with Ting to bring fiber internet service to Greenwood Village. This collaboration is a testament to City Council’s commitment to enhancing our residents’ quality of life by ensuring that all Greenwood Village residents have access to gigabit fiber internet service in their home,” said Mayor George Lantz.

"The Infrastructure Committee along with the entire Council has worked diligently to bring the highest level of internet service to Greenwood Village by providing our residents with access to a fiber internet network. This partnership with Ting will achieve that purpose and meet our evolving technology needs for years to come," said Councilmember Dave Bullock, Infrastructure Committee Chair.
