Operations are critical during winter storm events. Nearly every staff member in the Department plays a significant role in assuring that the 224-lane miles of roads and 42 miles of trails are plowed and kept safe for the public. Through the use of various pieces of equipment and 24-hour operations, staff will plow all roads within the village, including residential areas. Separate crews focus on trails in the community with the emphasis on pedestrian facilities around schools and high use areas. We first clear roadways for emergency vehicles, then onto major thoroughfares and mains in residential areas within the village, then the remaining residential streets and cul-de-sacs when the main routes are cleared.
