Leave (Time Off)
Eleven paid holidays throughout the year including: New Year's Day; Martin Luther King, Jr. Day; Presidents' Day; Memorial Day; Independence Day; Labor Day; Veterans Day; Thanksgiving Day; Day after Thanksgiving; Christmas Eve Day; and Christmas Day.

Vacation Leave
  • 12 days per year (0-5 years of service)
  • 15 days per year (6- 9 years of service), maximum accrual of 320 hours
  • 20 days per year (10+ years of service)

Sick Leave
  • 12 days per year (3.69 hours accrue per pay period), maximum accrual of 720 hours
  • 2 sick days per year may be used as personal days

Sick Leave Conversion to Vacation

Employees who have accumulated more than 480 sick leave hours may convert accrued sick leave in excess of that amount at a rate of 16 sick leave hours to eight vacation hours. A maximum of 80 sick leave hours may be converted to 40 vacation hours in any one calendar year. The minimum accrual of 480 hours must remain after the conversion is made.

Sick Leave Bank
The sick leave bank may be used for a maximum of 480 hours for regular full- and part-time employees who are unable to work because of a medical condition, injury, or sickness and do not have adequate sick leave or vacation leave. Employees shall first exhaust all sick leave and vacation leave before being eligible to use the sick leave bank. Hours are to be paid back at the rate of 50% of accrual.

Family & Medical Leave
Eligible employees are provided up to 12 weeks per year of job protected leave, which may or may not be paid, to be used for an employee's serious health condition or pregnancy related disability; the birth of a child or parent's care of a child following birth; placement of a child with an employee for adoption or foster care; or a serious health condition of an employee's child, spouse, or parent. Qualified family members of military personnel and reservists who have a "qualifying exigency" are eligible for 12 weeks of job protected leave; and eligible family members providing care to U.S. soldiers wounded in the line of duty are provided up to 26 weeks of unpaid leave.

Court Leave

Leave with pay when required to serve as subpoenaed juror or witness in a court of law.

Bereavement Leave
Leave with pay up to five days in the event of the death of a family member or close non-family member.

Educational Leave
Leave without pay not to exceed six calendar months in one year.

Emergency Leave
Leave with pay for up to three days in the case of a urgent personal matters.

Leave Without Pay

Time Off Without Pay: The department director may authorize time off without pay for a period of up to two weeks. Such leave may be granted in response to an emergency situation or a planned period of absence but will in no case exceed two weeks.

Leave of Absence: The city manager may grant a leave of absence in response to an emergency situation or a planned period of absence for a period of up to 60 calendar days. Employees must have used all accrued annual leave before becoming eligible.

Military Leave
Leave with pay not to exceed 15 days per calendar year.
