Crime Lab / Property & Evidence Unit
It is the goal of the Property & Evidence Unit to preserve and protect property and evidence by providing professional and proficient systematic storage and handling of each and every piece of evidence and property that we maintain.

The unit is comprised of a two criminalists, one of which is the senior criminalist.  The senior criminalist is responsible for managing the property & evidence facility, ensuring we have all the necessary equipment to accomplish our goal.  Both criminalists act in a C.S.I. (Crime Scene Investigator) role as well as managing and maintain an organized property and evidence facility.

Responsibilities of the Property & Evidence Unit:
  • Maintaining, storing and disposition of all property and evidence.
  • Responding to and processing crime scenes for any and all relevant evidence.
  • Working alongside our detective and patrol staff to log, store, secure and release all evidence and other property received.
  • Training our police officers regarding the proper collection and packaging of evidence.

Mission
The mission of the Greenwood Village Police Department Property and Evidence Unit is to preserve and protect property and evidence by proving processional, proficient, and systematic storage and handling of each and every piece of evidence or property that is entrusted to our care.

Unclaimed Property
The Greenwood Village Police Department currently has the following types of property which will be disposed of by the City unless the owner thereof reclaims such property in the manner provided by law within thirty (30) days after the item is received into the Greenwood Village Police Department Property and Evidence Section.  The following items are examples of items being held; bicycles, car keys, sporting goods, wallets, handbags, electronics, cameras, camera accessories, clothing, cellular phones, tools, office supplies, jewelry, firearm accessories and documents.

Found Property
Found property will be held for 30 days from the date it was received.  After 30 days the property will be disposed of, auctioned pursuant to Greenwood Village Ordinance.

Safekeeping Property
Any safekeeping property received from an officer will be held for 30 days for pick-up by the owner.  After 30 days the property will be destroyed or auctioned pursuant to Greenwood Village Ordinance.

Firearms
Owners wishing to retrieve their firearm(s) from the Property and Evidence Unit shall/must complete a criminal background check prior to released.


Picking up property from the Greenwood Village Police Department?
In order to claim your property, you must bring a government issued picture identification card.  Please contact the Property and Evidence Section at 303-773-2525 to schedule an appointment.  The Property and Evidence Section is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. to pick up any property.  We are located at 6060 South Quebec Street, Greenwood Village, CO 80111.
